The journey of MAT Holding group begins in 1935, with the creation of Industrias Químicas del Vallés, a family business dedicated to the production of Bordeaux mixture, a copper-based fungicide used in agriculture since the turn of the nineteenth century. For the first time, this copper salts-based preparation – which up until that point was traditionally produced in Spain through exclusively artisanal means – would be industrially produced and sold on a large scale.
That decision would turn IQV into a leading firm in the area of sustainable crop protection, as on top of being an efficient solution against crop diseases, copper salts are a natural compound the use of which is approved for organic farming (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) Nº 354/2014 of 8 of April 2014).
Throughout the years, IQV has managed to become the world’s leading agricultural copper salts manufacturer, by developing new formulas that have improved the action spectrum of its products, allowing farming professionals to take care of their crops in an efficient and sustainable way.
The development of the phytosanitary business and the opportunities generated by technological breakthroughs lead MAT Holding to grow in other complementary sectors. The group pioneered the introduction of drip irrigation in Spain with the creation of Regaber in 1980, which would coincide with the beginning of the group’s internationalisation process and the opening of subsidiaries in Portugal, Italy, the USA and China.
At the start of the 21st century, MAT Holding founded Hidroglobal in order to offer the most advanced and efficient water treatment and handling solutions. In 2014, MAT Holding signed the most important acquisition in its history and bought the Israeli company Dorot, thus strengthening its position as a relevant actor in the water sector. Today, with a presence in more than 100 countries, MAT Holding is a consolidated industrial group, an industry leader and a company synonymous for quality in the phytosanitary and water sectors.
Between 2014 and 2017, MAT Holding consolidated as a relevant actor within the water industry thanks to the two most important acquisitions of its history: the Israeli company Dorot and the Spanish companies STF and VICAN. Later, in 2018, the company acquires the North American OCV and, in 2020, the group incorporates ARI to strengthen its position as one of the relevant players in the Industry. Now present in more than 100 countries, MAT Holding is a market-leading, consolidated industrial group which has grown to become a synonym for quality in the phytosanitary and water sectors.
